The dream now seen in Philant
was realized at a very young age by one of the initial founders. Growing
up in India, he saw at an early age that some of the basic needs of the
poor are not met. In his tender years he dreamed of traveling from village
to village giving medical assistance as a doctor in turn for food or simple
appreciation. In his career and educational path, his vision has developed
far beyond the dream of being a doctor. The vision now held by Philant
holds five basic elements of medicine, nutrition,
education, housing
and environment as rights for all humanity.
One area of need is infectious disease. Although infectious diseases have
been largely eradicated in rich countries, they account for approximately
half of the deaths in developing countries. They claim as many as 13 million
lives each year, primarily children. These diseases could travel to other
parts of the world as well, and could have devastating consequences. Philant
is devoted to developing new prevention strategies and more effective
solutions for the emerging world.
The state of the world today calls for a renewed commitment to developing
new methods for delivering these five basic elements to all humanity by
means of Sustainable
Solutions.
